<p><a href="https://www.primacareortho.com/" target="_blank">Dr. Mena Mesiha</a> is a Board-certified orthopedic surgeon trained in general orthopedics, with specialized fellowship training in problems affecting the shoulder.</p><p>Dr. Mesiha is a graduate of Cornell University and received his Doctorate in Medicine from SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He completed his Orthopedic Residency at the Cleveland Clinic, followed by additional training in the Harvard Shoulder Fellowship at the Mass General and Brigham and Women’s Hospitals. Dr. Mesiha is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), and a <a href="http://spec.ases-assn.org/members/directory/search.aspx?directory=public" target="_blank">Candidate Member of the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES)</a>.</p><p>During his residency, Dr. Mesiha <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24132354" target="_blank">studied the biomechanics of rotator cuff tears</a> and the <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21976447" target="_blank">biology of rotator cuff healing</a>. He uses this knowledge of the science of rotator cuff disease to help him counsel patients on when it is appropriate to avoid surgery and to maximize their benefits from surgery when it is necessary. He has also studied <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24806017" target="_blank">the importance of component positioning in shoulder replacement surgery</a> and is currently using state-of-the-art 3-D printing technology to plan his shoulder replacement procedures. Dr. Mesiha is considered by <a href="https://health.usnews.com/doctors/mena-mesiha-656860" target="_blank">U.S. News & World Report</a> to be an experienced, high volume surgeon for both rotator cuff repairs and shoulder replacement procedures.</p><p>In addition to his commitment to keeping up with the latest techniques in shoulder surgery, Dr. Mesiha is committed to informing his patients in detail about their nonsurgical treatment options. One of his ongoing shared decision making initiatives has been to develop a database that keeps track of patient expectations before surgery, so that there is clear communication about what his patients should and should not expect from an operation.</p><p>Dr. Mesiha has <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=mesiha+mena" target="_blank">authored over a dozen academic papers in the orthopedic literature</a> and has given numerous presentations to his peers at local and national orthopedic meetings. He currently serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, the American Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of Clinical Biomechanics.
