About Me

Allegheny Health Network is pleased to welcome neurosurgeon Jody Leonardo, MD. Dr. Leonardo is board-certified in neurosurgery and fellowship-trained in intraventricular and skull base neuroendoscopy. She specializes in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of disorders of the central and peripheral nervous system including hydrocephalus, intraventricular tumors, pituitary and skull base tumors, brain tumors, trauma, infections of the brain and spine, stroke, and other diseases of the spine. She has particular interest in minimally invasive endoscopic brain and skull base surgical techniques as well as the surgical management of adult hydrocephalus.

She earned her medical degree from Medical College of Pennsylvania Hahnemann University and completed her neurosurgery residency at the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y. She went on to complete an intracranial and skull base neuroendoscopy fellowship at St. Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. After her fellowship, she joined the University at Buffalo Neurosurgical Department as assistant professor specializing in minimally invasive brain and skull base procedures, and served as director of the Adult Hydrocephalus Clinic as well as Brain Endoscopy. She is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.

Dr. Leonardo graduated summa cum laude from Duquesne University. During her general surgery intern year at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, she received the Golden Apple Award for resident excellence in medical student teaching, the Bronze Torch Award, and the WOW award for excellence in patient care. She was granted the University at Buffalo Resident Award and was recently inducted into the Gold Humanism Society. She has presented to medical audiences around the country and serves as an avid medical student and resident educator. She is a published author of articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. Dr. Leonardo holds professional memberships with several professional societies, including the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Hydrocephalus Association, the Pituitary Society, and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, of which she is a fellow.

She has medical staff privileges at Allegheny General Hospital and is welcoming new patients.
