About Me

Dr. Daniel Altman is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at both Drexel University College of Medicine and Temple University School of Medicine at the Allegheny General Hospital Campus. He has served as the director of Orthopaedic Spine Trauma at Allegheny General Hospital since 2004. In addition, he directs the hospital’s Orthopaedic Residency Program and Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship. Along with his clinical and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Altman has maintained an active research career, which has resulted in a number of publications in professional journals, including Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, The Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, and The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He has authored multiple book chapters and presented at numerous National and International meetings. Currently his basic science research focuses on Orthopaedic Biofilms and their effect on fracture healing. Additionally his clinical research is focused on improving outcomes after spinal and major orthopaedic injuries.

Dr. Altman received his undergraduate degree from Allegheny College and graduated from Temple University School of Medicine in 1990. He completed a Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh in Spinal Surgery. After his Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, he served as a Clinical Fellow and Instructor in Orthopaedic Trauma at Harvard Medical School/The Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Prior to his appointment at Allegheny General Hospital, he was the Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Altman is a member of numerous medical societies and committees. These include the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, the North American Spine Society, and the Pan American Trauma Society. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
